The Register of Wills office is where wills are probated or if there is no will we issue Letters of Administration.   In 2000 we probated 409 estates and in 2001, 437.   After the estate is opened there are quite a few other papers that must be filed and Inheritance Tax paid.  In 2000 we collected $4,322,000 in Inheritance Tax and in 2001 $4,505,000.

 

      The Recorder of Deeds Office is responsible for recording deeds, mortgages, right of ways, agreements, UCC’s, soldier discharges, clean and green and many miscellaneous papers pertaining to real estate.  We have been extremely busy with people re-mortgaging and satisfying their existing mortgages.  In 2000 we collected $9,310,000 and in 2001 we collected $10,661,000.  The office is always busy with people doing title searches and genealogy work.
